The Irony of the song 'hit me with your best shot!' in this movie...

I just thought it was ironic that the girls were singing karaoke and the song that Big Betty was singing to was "Hit me with your best shot!" I don't know what to think!

You use that word "irony". I do not think it means what you think it means.

You don't think the use of the song was ironic?

Thanks, warped. And I DO know what the meaning of the word means...

This is considered verbal irony. The fact that they choose to have BB sing "Hit me with your best shot" when this is a movie about the physical abuse, harassment, and terrorization.

If she sang "I will follow him", The Police's "I'll be watching you", Carly Simon's "You belong to me", Nine inch nails' "Closer" better known "I wanna fvk you like an animal..." it would be still ironic.

Singing something empowering to women or something else benign would not be ironic.

The song seems on the surface to be ironic. But there's a deeper meaning. It contain the lyrics:

Knock me down, it's all in vain
I'll get right back on my feet again!

It's about resilience, not submission.
