Great performance by Sean Bean

I think Sean Bean's performance deserves extra praise because he's not a household name like most other actors in the film and yet still becomes a key character, and because his performance is so quietly moving rather than loud and bombastic.

Namely is the scene when he talks to Josey's son and confronts him about his feelings toward his mother, his acting was so terrific I was at a loss for words.

Bean deserves as much credit as all the supporting actors for pulling this film together and it's sad to see him and the other good men (including Harrelson and Jenkins) constantly get overlooked. Hat's off to all the cast, but Bean in particular! Best performance I've seen from him!

I totally agree with you! Just rewatched the film and his performance was outstanding!

Sean Bean is a fantastic actor who is good in every movie he's in.

I disagree that he isn't as big a name as the other actors in the film. Charlize Theron and Woody Harrelson are the only bigger name actors in the movie, and that just barely.

He does a great job here. At first, his character doesn't seem to have much to do with the main story, but ultimately he provides a necessary counterpoint to the loutish mineworkers. He also has that great scene with Theron's son (who I wanted to strangle), where he becomes a temporary father figure, possibly the only positive fatherly influence the kid has had.

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

I strongly agree.
