Great performance by Charlize

For me the best thing about North Country was Charlize Theron's excellent performance. Her brilliant, Oscar-winning portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in Monster will be impossible to beat through the rest of her career, but the great thing about this film is that it proved Monster was not just a once-off lucky streak, that she really is an excellent dramatic actress. She is particularly good at conveying Josey's raw anger at being victimized, how trapped and frustrated she feels, her tense relationship with her son, and her even more painful relationship with her father (very well played by Richard Jenkins). With a lesser actress North Country could have easily descended into melodramatic TV-movie clichés, but Charlize certainly earned her second Oscar nomination with this role.

I also agree. Seeing Charlize in this film reminded me why I love her as an actress. She never fails to deliver a great performance.

I watched this movie, and it was outstanding. Movies of this nature require the actress playing such a role to be able to act and she did it superbly.

Frances McDormand was even better.

I was particularly impressed by how well she does crying scenes. I usually cringe at watching most crying scenes because they seem so phony. I wish all actors could cry like her.

I am just watching this movie...her performance is excellent...dunno who won the Oscar in 2006 but it must have been a very hard decison....her performance is great.
U can see the pain that she's going through...great performance Charlize!

Charlize is a phenomenal actress who always delivers, and she's especially good at playing these blue-collar types. And an extremely impressive supporting cast as well: Richard Jenkins, Sissy Spacek, Jeremy Renner, Frances McDormand.

Oh, I agree. There's something so human beneath that veil of beauty that she's just incredible to watch. Not that beauty is inhuman.
