So what do you think her salary was?

When Glory was telling her to apply at the mine, she said, "Do you want to make the same kind of money your dad does?"

Now, her dad had been there for years, so I would assume that his salary was decent since he'd been there for so long. I doubt that a woman just getting a job there would be making the same kind of money as a seasoned employee like her dad.

But still - she was able to purchase a home, and gifts for her kids, as well as other things, so it seemed she was making good enough money.

She said the mine paid 6 times what she was making as a hairdresser. I don't really have the figures, but I'm assuming the hair styling job paid minimum wage or just over.

She would have been earning union rates. I'm sure it was decent money.

A company I used to work for paid union workers top contracted union salary from day one on the job. That changed in the early eighties.

I've had tons of family work in the mines on the iron range. The last time I inquired starting wage was 20-25 and you get frequent raises since there's a high turnover. That was about 15 years ago

She was a union minor so she would have been making very good money. And not to be too much of a dick about it but she wouldn't have earned a salary she would have earned wages. The two words are not interchangeable.
