Unusual Request.

Hello Folks:

I just saw this movie, and I thought it was OK. The main reason that I even purchased and watched this movie is because I have, for the last several years, had an interest in working class women, particularly those who work in "nontraditional" (male-dominated) fields. They can be electricians, plumbers, mechanics, construction workers, miners, welders, loggers, etc. I know that this is going to sound weird to the rest of you all, but I just have this fascination with women who can build and fix things. I also like women who know how to fight fires too, and I also have an interest in stuntwomen, female race drivers, bikers and even paramedics. (I like to see women in racing gear and/or uniforms also!) I just don't know what to do.

I already know some shows and movies that feature women doing nontraditional work. Some of them are these:

SMOKE JUMPER or TRIAL BY FIRE (2008) - Lady wants to join elite firefighting team.
WALL - E (2008) - "Female" robot repairs "male" robot, bringing him back to life.
TRANSFORMERS (2007) - Girl briefly diagnoses what's wrong with boy's "car".
FIREFLY - Sci fi show featuring lady that works on starship.
SERENITY (2005) - Based on FIREFLY; has lady fixing starship.
I COME IN PEACE or DARK ANGEL (1990) - Lady working on car gets killed by humanoid alien.
TANK GIRL (1995) - I believe has a scene where Tank Girl tunes up her tank.
SPEED RACER (2008) - Race driver's girlfriend helps him rebuild his car.
REDLINE (2007) - Mother of the lead female character works underneath automobile.
BETTER OFF DEAD (1985) - Girl works underneath car trying to tune it up.

Does anyone know any other good movies, shows, comic books, cartoons or even novels that feature females doing nontraditional work like the examples I just stated? I am open to all answers. Please don't hesitate to keep in touch. Thank you very much.

Unfortunately I can't think of any 'good' films which fit your description! I thought I'd post anyway in the hope that other people would follow because I'm interested in your field of study

FLASHDANCE (1983) welder

Check out 'The Silence of The Lambs.' Although its not a major theme the main character being female in a male world is duly referenced.

Your reference to Silence of the Lambs brings to mind another Jody Foster role - in Contact she plays an astronomer who must deal with her chauvinistic, condescending colleague/supervisor Dr. Drumlin (played by Tom Skerritt), who even steals the credit for much of her work.

Heart Like A Wheel about the life of Top Fuel Drag Racer Shirley Muldowney

Quarterback Princess about a high school girl playing QB on the boys high school football team.

If a man speaks in the forest and no women is there to hear it is he still wrong?

Another one is In The Valley Of Elah (with Charlize Theron) no less.

"Adultery makes a party go such a swing!" Naomi——Skins.

Death Proof by Tarantino
Women racing 60s muscle cars, and fast, while riding on the hood. 2 of them are stuntwomen as well!

on that note: a lot of tarantino. Jackie Brown for one. Yes flight attendant is a stereotypical role for a woman, but this flight attendant hustles the bad guys

reply

"Heart Like a Wheel" with Bonnie Bedelia.
