I love this show but I always worry about how much joy the crew bring to the owners of these cars. The extreme joy would be equal to extreme sadness if a thief watched the show, found the car and stole it.
I'm sure it has happened. They never really explain the types of alarms fitted and if any kill switches are put into the vehicles. I hope so.
however you should consider that a specially customized card which thousands of people saw on TV would be rather hard to sell after you stole it.
Of course unless you disassemble the whole car and sell it in parts..
I always watch this show and think "well, I hope they weren't planning on keeping that car for a long time!" The cars, in my opinion, lose functionality. The one I'm watching right now, they ripped out the back seat and put in a sound system....so now he can only have one passenger? Well, that sucks. And then when they put tv monitors everywhere.....what is the point of that?

shareI've stolen a few of the cars on show, you just have to do some searching about and its quite easy to track the owners back to their streets, then its a simple case of breaking into their house, stealing the keys and driving off.
Then I woke up, but seriously, they tell you whereabouts they live and show the entire street, anybody that lives within about 20 miles that had a few days to spare could bike about the place until they find roughly where the thing is.

you think these people keep the cars they get back? me I'd take out the xbox and sound system, flog the rest and then buy myself a sensible car. no need to worry about thieves or insurance policies, just sit back and enjoy a bit of free money. boom.

I wonder that too, not just for stealing the car but virtually anything like I just watched an episode where the gave a girl a 400 carrot hood ornament... As if that isn't going to be stolen within a week??

Well the show is basically a commercial for the garage that does the work, and as for functionality, well, it's all about blowing people away at first look. At first you think, "Wow, how COOL" and then you realize that a TV/DVD player in the back seat isn't much fun for the owner of the car. And a TV in the front seat would be a hazard on wheels. It's all about the wow factor.
But the cars do look freakishly cool after being pimped.

I can't remember where I heard it, since this was years ago, but one girl had her boyfriend put the car on cinderblocks and remove the tires so it wouldn't get stolen. She only drove it on weekends.
