Just saw it this a.m. and was thinking the dumbwaiter or food tray delivery would have been a possible escape route if they had taken it apart. They did find a crowbar.
The crowbar could have been used to pry apart the mortar fastening the bricks in the walled in windows.
I agree, I rewatched this yesterday and i was thinking the same thing. It makes sense, but at the same time, they were being basically starved, over-heated, and stressed, and they were weak, and not thinking clearly...also probably thought it would be a fruiltess effort seeing as how the watcher went to so much trouble so that they wouldnt escape. Things like this to a viewer make sense, but in a real situation, who knows what you would do, also if they escaped quick there would be no move
