i dunno, i thought it was a lot better than the first episode which was just disturbing and not funny. Ruth Jones is absolutely brilliant as well, she makes me laugh so much. I'm Welsh myself and I find her accent absolutely hilarious. Think this episode got into its stride a little more and didn't stop so much for embarrassing scenes which didn't make the audience (the bit last week with the horse was excruciating.....

Yeah, I've loved Ruth Jones in everything she's been in, she's brill in Little Britain as Myfanwy too. Hopefully Nighty Night will get into gear now, i recommended the second series to some people who hadn't watched the first and they said that they were disappointed with the first episode. Hopefully they will have stuck with it and watched last night's. there were some brilliant moments. Julia Davis is a genius!
shareI thought that last night's episode was an improvement on last week's episode. That said though, something still doesn't seem quite right about it all. There were some funny scenes in last night's episode, but Julia seems to be trying far too hard to cross the taste boundary, but unlike the first series, it just isn't funny anymore.
It does pain me to say all this as I thought that series one was one of the funniest British shows I've seen since the first series of I'm Alan Partridge.
I said this same thing last week, but I hope next week's episode is better.

Well this weeks episode wasn't bad. It had lots of good elements but it's lacking any focus unlike the first series.
Julia Davis would've been better writing a completely new show because all the gags are there but she doesn't know what to do with the characters.
It's lost some of the intellect the first series had. The jokes all seem a bit obvious although some are really funny.
Things that made me laugh;
Jill stood over the dead body having a fag.
Glen doing the trust exercise.
Beth and the racism comments (great dialogue).
Glen catching the pill at the start.
Jill speaking tongues.
Jill thinking Cath might be "leathery".
Cath in therapy on her own and the "self-love".
Jill saying Dennis tried to rape her anus (I pissed myself when she said that).
The noise the fishmonger made when he came.
The bit about the bun, "you wiped your bottom on it".
Things that didn't make me laugh;
Linda being bummed in a fish wagon.
Linda pulling a fish out of her fanny (although Jill made me laugh when she was going on about the smell).
So overall I thought it was really good and a definate improvement on last weeks which was just too disturbing. But it really isn't up to the same standard of series 1.
Also, I don't like how Linda has become Jill's side kick. It's really annoying how she always says "Thank-you Jill".
And last thing, was Don's girlfriend the waitress from Mumbles?
Well said, pudsack. I agree with most of what you said. I completely agree with you on your first few points. The characters are all there, but she's not quite sure what to do with them anymore.
And yes, I think Don's girlfriend was the waitress from Mumbles.

Loved series 1 - one of the best and funniest things ive ever seen, all my family agreed.
Thought episode 1 of series 2 was great - episode 2 i wasnt so sure about. my family didnt laugh once. I did but they didnt.
Thinking she maybe should have left it where it was - dont spoil a good thing. Hoping it picks up once she starts being embarassing around Don again and annoying Kathy with it.
I love the whole "thank you jill" - even when shes being put down - that cracks me up every time. There's been no "better settle this up now Kathy or it just gets nasty" and only one "Hiya Kathy" when she jumped out at her in her car. Nearly pissed myself at that bit. Those were the best 2 things out of the first series i think. Hence my signature. Lol.
Better settle this up now Kathy or it just gets nasty
No one else seems to have mentioned this - is it me or does series 2 look.. I don't know.. cheaper? The first series had a kind of polished cinematic look whereas this series looks kind of clunky and not as well filmed - Is it a different crew at work, a conscious move at a new 'gritty' look, or just a lower budget???
Did you Ruth Jones lovers catch her in Human Remains? - one of her scenes with Julia had me actually crying with laughter (involving a kids teddy-bear wallpaper boarder - "did you get it in a bargain bin?") Priceless!!!

Definitely
I noticed it from the instant the first scene in the firs episode came on. It looks more amateurishly filmed. Difficult to describe, but yes: I know exactly what you mean.

The racist bit was particularly funny; "It's been a bad summer" or something like that was great.
So far then: Episoide I: 3/10
Episode II: 6/10
Episode III: 8/10

One thing working against the second series so far is the lack of build up. The first series was expertly paced, revealing new atrocious traits to Jill from episode to episode, always building to that darkly humorous sledgehammer of a finale.
The second series so far seems to have jumped straight into the deepend, too much action not enough restraint. Mind I'm quite prepared to chew my words as the series progresses, can't help feeling some nasty treat will be instore for us by the time of its conclusion.
I know what you mean slippery Jack. I mentioned this in the other thread. It looks like it's been filmed on handy cams. I think it's an attempt at grittiness but it doesn't work. Would've been better with the more cinematic feel.
shareI've also noticed the filming quality is different - I actually think the way it was filmed in Series 1 made it the show seem darker than it does now in terms of atmosphere.
Episode 1 of this series I didn't enjoy but Episode 2 was an improvement, more laughable moments. I think Julia made Jill so OTT and crude in the first series that for the show to progress - the scenes with the horse, Linda being buggered and pulling a fish from her vagina etc. have been her way of stepping it up a gear but to be honest it's not really worked.
The same thing happened with Little Britain Series 2 - the old sketches became tired and the new ones became more extreme.

It's really annoying how she always says "Thank-you Jill".

I couldn't agree more with you. That's really starting to piss me off.
i agree so much with both of you, i can't stick that anymore.

I'd certainly agree with that. I think you're dead right.
