What happened to Terry (Kevin Eldon)?

Just watched the 2nd series expecting him to be in it since you see he's alive at the end...but there's not even an explanation?

Have I missed something?

The series 2 DVd has an interview with Julia Davis. She said that she was sorry not to have Kevin Eldon in the 2nd series but that the story had moved on and she couldn't fit him into the plot line.

didn't he get snuffed in the first series?

The whole twist to Series 1 (at the end) was that Terry was still alive! In fact Julia Davis had never expected the show to go beyond one series as it too her years to write series one. She said in an interview that she had to desperately think of a way of bringing back characters who had died.

I actually think something happened between her and Kevin Eldon because he was a great character and would have done a lot more for the plot of series 2 than the one she ended up going with.

At one point in the first episode of series 2 it is mentioned that Glen was convicted of not only attacking Gordon but also going to Jill's house to strangle Terry. I suppose this means that after the end of series 1, Jill popped back home to strangle him herself. (This is said during the scene at Sue's house, I think the exact line said by Sue to Jill was something like "and then to go back to your house and strangle someone he didn't even know!" which Jill then interrupts to ask after Don and Kath.)

The fact that no one seems to notice or care that he was home to be strangled (he was supposed to be dead already, remember, they'd had his funeral!) is only one of the countless MAJOR flaws with series two.

I have a hunch that the impeccably talented Mr. Eldon, who seems utterly unable to find a bad part or play any part badly, gently backed away from the steaming pile of poop that is series two. One look at the script must have told him all he needed to know. Whether he lied to his old comrade Julia or whether he agreed to lie about it publicly to avoid embarassing her we'll never know, but somehow I feel sure that his decision was intentional.

I am sooooo sad. Series one is one of my all-time favorites, I've watched my dvd a few times now and loved it more each time, but series two is as stupid, poorly-made, and unfunny as anything I've watched in a very long time. What a darn shame.

See series 2 is a strange one for me. On one hand I find the plot line utterly purile, pathetic and childish and on the other I find that same pathetic and childish humour and situations so funny. It all reminds me of belly laughing at something in school - you know its stupid and unfunny to everyone else but you still can't help laughing at it.

The fact of the matter is Series 2 is very poorly written and executed. Julia Davis (herself) said she'd killed most of the characters off and had trouble thinking of ways to bring them back. However Terry was the only character she could have easily brought back and also got herself a segway into an easy storyline. Apparently Julia Davis was adament she was going to film a second series in Cornwall and I think this was possibly the series downfall as the whole setting doesn't give much support to the storyline. If I had written series 2 I would have done the following:-

Series 2 would have started with Jill in Jail, she is sat in a cell and we see flashbacks to the police turning up and going to arrest Glen, but Gordon just about managing to point the finger at Jill. They then burst into the shed and find Terry who also supports the claim. Gordon, Glen and Terry are all taken off in ambulances - Linda is zipped up in a body bag and Jill is taken away in handcuffs!

Now cut to Jill in jail, typical women's prison. A rather nasty, Burley female prison warden seems to have taken a shine to Jill! Jill is playing all the women against each other.
She talks to her solicitor (a rather feeble man) and Jill keeps telling him it was all Linda - taking revenge on Terry for fancying HER more! Her Solicitor says that Linda is dead and couldn't have committed the crimes.

Cut to Linda's funeral - everyone gathered around the grave - only to hear scratching from inside the coffin. Linda is still alive, but has been in a death like coma (even through the embalming process!!). Linda is subsequantly arrested at her own wake and thrown in Jail - sharing a cell with Jill.

Meanwhile - Terry has started to become a media celebrity, going on TV talk shows and signing a multi-million pound book deal for his story. Jill see's this and isn't too impressed Terry has found celebrity - but certainly interested in his money. She phones Terry and asks him to visit her - but he refuses.

Cathy and Don are living happily in the country.

Using the Burley Prison Wardon Jill tries to seduce her and then mananges to break free from the Jail with Linda in tow. She heads off to find Don.

Glen is released from hospital (missing half a stomach) and wants to declare his love to Jill. Completely unaware she has been arrested for his poisoning. He goes to the house and is confronted with Terry (who now has a rather pushy agent who is trying to get him into bed ala Jill).

They both hear (on the news) that Jill has escaped from jail and end up setting off together on her trail.

Jill and Linda (in the Burley prison wardens) stolen 4x4 head off down the motorway in search of Cath and Don. In an earlier segment Sue had visited Jill in Jail to confront her about why she poisoned Don. This was on the request of a TV talk show host who wanted to do a follow up programme! Jill managed to rummage through Sue's bag and find her address book and postcard!

Terry and Glen head off to the prison to find out what went wrong, Jill and Linda head off down the motorway to Cornwall and somehow they all manage to collide at services on the M4. Terry and Glenn pursue Jill and Linda but lose them near exister.

Eventually all four arrive in Cornwall unknown to Cathy and Don! Cathy and Don have no idea about Jills escape as they have no media at their hippy community.

Also in pursuit are Terry's pushy agent and the Burley Prison Warden!

But sketchy I know - but a stronger plot than the plan Cornwall one!

Agree 100%. A friend of mine recently watched series one for the first time and loved it; he's now eager to watch series two and I've been reluctant to give him my DVD. Series two is shockingly poor compared to the absolute genius that Julia created with the first series. I don't know what happened (well, I do - the story ended perfectly and should've been left alone). There were of course some great one-liners here and there, and Julia's always delightful to watch when she's playing Jill, but there was just no sparkle and the decidedly crass tone of the second series didn't help matters. It stands up slightly better on repeated viewing (I did say slightly) but it's lacking in cohesion and by the end it just feels like surreal sketches thrown together. As you said, it's a shame.

ginda - what a fun bit of romp! Thanks for posting it, it was fun to imagine.

Hiya kinkyboots. I sympathize. I know exactly what it's like to have a dvd that a friend wants to borrow and to feel like - no, really, you're better off without it.
