Better than 'remember the titans' and reminds me of Sir Alex Ferguson

I know the sports are different but when I started watching this, I expected another cliched coach/sports team film like "Remember the Titans" which was as good as you can be when totally cliched.

But I was surprised by this movie. It wasn't all cliches, and I was surprised to see Hollywood showing them losing the final game. I know this is based on a true story but the creators still have artistic license to change it as they see fit and could easily have had them win the State Championships.

By the way, the coach reminds me a lot of Sir Alex Ferguson, the guy who went into a Man United team full of drunks and unfit players, and instilled a new regime that the players had to rise to or quit. The party scene reminds me of around 10 years ago when Fergie pulled Ryan Giggs and Lee Sharpe out of a house party! And now he is one of the most respected managers in world football ever thanks to the success he has brought to the team based purely on discipline and motivation (he is not especially a great tactician).

Great movie!

Haha, as if Ryan Giggs ever went to a house party =O

'You tried to kill me!'
'If I had tried that, your head would be splattered all over this field.'

"In the early 1990s, Giggs was David Beckham before Beckham was even holding down a place in the United first team. If you put his face on the cover of a football magazine, it guaranteed you the biggest sales of the year. Why? Men would buy it to read about 'the new Best' and girls bought it because they wanted his face all over their bedroom walls. Giggs had the million-pound boot deal (Reebok), the lucrative sponsorship deals in the Far East (Fuji) and the celebrity girlfriends (Dani Behr, Davinia Taylor) at a time when Beckham was being sent on loan to Preston North End."

Umm you should stick SPOILERS in your message, you just ruined the end for me mate

reply

That's your fault for being stupid enough to come onto these forums before watching the film.

reply

Yeah? And you're a big fat poopoo head.

IMDB is for people to check before, during, and after a movie. Spoiler headings are established etiquette, and common sense for anybody who has ever used an internet forum to discuss movies.

reply

Bullcrap. If you had any idea about an internet forum you'd know not to assume that people will use spoiler warnings.

reply

Good point, most people on IMDB these days have no manners...

reply

"Super Mario" is correct.

On IMDB, it's deemed as proper etiquette to list spoiler warnings only when writing reviews of movies. However, whenever you post a comment on the post board, it's presumed that those visiting the board have already viewed the movie, TV series, documentary, etc. The IMDB even cites the following: "This board is reserved for discussions about..."

If you haven't viewed a particular film, how can you discuss it?

reply

Some of us have the board up while watching the movie, so a spoiler alert would be jolly useful.

reply

SPOILER ALERT D-BAG!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Thank you for the spoiler warning. :)

Hmmmm, its a great movie, but I wouldnt' say its better than "Remember The Titans". Also I'm not the type of person that cares about spoilers, people need to stop being so sensitive, its just a movie lol

reply

They're actually quite similar except one is set in 1971 and the other 2004.

The real Ken Carter insisted that if they were to make the film, they would not change the fate of the game, and show the team losing,or they did not have is permission to portray him.The film makers had no choice this is why at the ending he says something along the lines of ''OK,so we didn't get our fairytale ending.'' as a nod to Ken Carter's wish
