Coach Carter Was Annoying

I found coach Carter annoying. I appreciated what he was trying to do and agreed with his stance on getting good grades if you wanted to play. But his militant do what I say or I'll kill you attitude was a huge buzzkill. It wouldn't have earned any respect from me if I was a player. His character was unlikeable throughout the entire movie and other than being really desperate to play basketball, I don't see why anybody would want to play for that douche otherwise. I get that they were trying to emphasize his strict but fair policy, but they didnt do anything to make the guy at least even kind of likeable.

It's like he'll do anything he can to get them into college except give them a smile from time to time. geez.

Then go play for a coach who allows his players to act like jerks and slack and get poor grades and be in gangs leading to a losing life and a losing season (they were what 4-22 the yr before Carter).

Uh... are the only two choices and a coach that doesn't give a sh*t and an annoying douche?

I'm pretty sure you can find a happy medium. There's no way I would have played for that douche. Im not into gangs and choose to get good grades on my own. Don't need a drill sergeant ruining the fun out of playing basketball.

Carter wasn't even a drill Sargent though. He was the type that will only get up in a kids face if they give him a reason too. If they challenge his authority he wont back down. Otherwise he's no different then any other fair coach.

He was a guy who came from the same type of neighborhoods and knew what it was like so that's how his relationship with those players were able to develop the way they did as the movie went along.

Did you ever see him smile throughout the movie? Was there ever any mind of funny, happy moment? No.
I aint sayin' he ran them down and yelled at them like a drill sergeant at all times, but he was not in the least bit likeable at any time.

He did smile when he was telling the story about his ex girlfriends and explaining how that would be related to basketball plays. That was a nice moment with the team imo.

But besides that there was no reason for him to smile around them because he had a goal to get them to turn their lives around. Had to deal with a bunch of parents who had the mentality of just let them play and don't worry about their grades despite the current system not really helping the kids future one bit.

To me he was like a real father figure should be. He's not there to be your friend but to help prepare young men for adult hood and I think the movie did a good job with that. but hey each their own.

Did you watch the movie? There were plenty of moments where he smiled and plenty of happy moments and plenty of funny moments. He pushed his players, he was straight with them and expected them to be straight with him. I think you may have watched a different movie than everyone else.

Ill admit, I skimmed thru though this horrible movie. Please elaborate on the scenes that made this POS likable.

Well there we go, you can't give an opinion about a movie if you just skimmed through it. You obviously missed pretty much all the parts you wanted to see from it.

When talking about his sisters and turning it into training drills he made the kids laugh and smile. Same whn he talked about an ex with them. When telling them he wanted them to go on to college and wanted them to have that oppurtunity he was straight with them. When Cruze showed up at his house after his cousin was just killed he comforted him and helped him. When they won that tournement he was happy and smiling with them. When they ended up losing who gave the hell good speech of how proud he was of them and what not. There are loads of happy feelgood moments in the movie but because you admittly just skimmed through it you missed them all.

First time seeing this film last night, I absolutely loved it since I'm caucasian. I found it so inspiring, if it was me I would have worked my ass off for him just as they did.

It was such a great story. Shame Hollywood isn't as good as films like this today. I thought Samuel L Jackson was fantastic in this film.

Perfect answer! It only needs a happy medium coach.

He had a goal and it wasn't to win the popularity contest.

I find sammy jax the annoying part. Has he ever played more than one role in different tones?
