Why are they wearing shirts and ties in the garage?

They look like bankers on lunch break but do some hillbilly engineering in their dirty garage, so why are the wearing shirt and tie? It took me right out of the movie. Anyone in their position would have gotten into more comfy clothing first.
Took me riiiight out of the movie...

I once got off work, played a M:TG draft tournament, and then watched college bball on my sofa... and I never took off my tie.

tl;dr
Extended usage of neck-ties happen.

Enjoy these words, for one day they'll be gone... All of them.

If that is true at all, then you are a fool.

reply

All true. Reinforced by the foolishness of me responding to your post. Im such a fool and Im fine with that--there is always upside.

I think the idea is that these guys all have day jobs and that they're working on these other things in their off time. I think the shirts and ties are just sort of indicating that they come home and begin working on their side projects right away, without even changing out of their work clothes.

Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything.

reply

Still, it's not believable. They come across as the type of douches who sport a suit and tie in their free time because they want everybody to know what an important job they have.

reply

Sure, it could be a little douche-y. But it's not unbelievable. I know plenty of people like that...

My guess is to aid in the ability to edit and maintain continuity with the limited amount of footage that was shot.

reply

If that level of disconnect was enough to ruin the movie for you then you were definitely right to stop, because shortly after the unrealistic scene with the ties in the garage, they start traveling backwards in time.

reply

I'll be laughing for a few minutes now. Nice, mto.

reply

freaking lol.

well put

I think it's showing that they take what they are doing as seriously as they would take a regular day job. I sometimes put on dress clothing just to do *beep* around the house. Adds a mental level of professionalism to whatever you're doing.

reply

because they're idiots

...and the tie stuffed into their shirts between the buttons isn't impressive, people who do that look like fools. If the tie is in the way, take it off!

reply

Ties and shirts in the garage wasn't that big of a deal for me, but when they went to the party and EVERY guy there (except the shotgun douche) was dressed in a white shirt and tie... Well, that looked kind of off.

they even wear dress shirts when they remove the cat converter from Aaron's car. the shirts somehow stay pristine even though it would require lying on the parking garage floor wrestling with the bolts (those things are hard to get off - the bolts are always rusty as hell).

reply

Maybe not everyone wants to go around looking like a scruff.
