trivia about carter high/fore shadowing

Dallas Carter beat Converse Judson in the Texas 5A Championship Game, not Odessa Permian. However, their championship was later stripped from them because of eligibility rules violations.

thats how its written in the trivia section.

did they purposely cast older looking guys to play for carter high to emphasize the fact they were ineligible in some form?

Not only did the school (not the system itself but Carter High) drop the ball, but the principal involved in the cover-up of the player's failing grade ruined the career of the teacher involved as well.

The thing that always annoys me about that type of situation is that you know every high school in texas (as well as many all over the country) does that, but everyone makes a big deal and acts shocked when it goes public. The same thing is currently happening with the University of Miami players taking money from boosters. That happens at every school, and even more so at prestigious sports schools like Miami. Im not condoning either of these things, I'm just annoyed when people act surprised and appalled when they hear about it.

The crazy thing is that isn't even the worst thing that happened with a player on that years Carter team, 2 players I want to say a cornerback and linebacker were convicted of armed robbery right after the season. The team did have a bright spot, Jesse Armstead who played in the NFL for many years was on this team.

Exactly. I was thinking eligibility, that's nothing--read about the gang of ARMED ROBBERS on the Cowboys team, who had full rides and threw it all away! Unbelievable story. I read somewhere there was criticism of how the Cowboys were portrayed in the movie and man, they got off easy. Y'all had a gang of armed robbers on your team--I'm thinking they probably didn't quibble at kicking the QB in the face while he was on the ground.
