Friday Night Lights ~ Best Sports Movie...EVER!

Hands-down...no doubt about this one!
Thornton is superb, and the entire cast is very good.
This is a solid 9 out of 10..and a 10 out of 10 for sport movie fans.

10 = unmissable, absolute must see!
9 = excellent
8 = very good
7 = good, entertaining
6 = OK, fine, whatever
5 = average
4 = barely watchable, nodded off occasionally
3 = bad
2 = awful
1 = dire!
0 = shouldn't have been made at all!

Absolutely. Though I'd categorize it as a human story more than a sports movie. But as a sports movie it's subversive, it's not the underdog beating the heavy favorite, it's a heavily favored team falling apart during the year and eventually losing the big game. That alone makes it distinctive in the manipulative 'sports movie' genre.

I think I have watched every single semi-advertised sports movie of the past 40 years. With apologies to "Hoosiers", "Major League", "Slap Shot" and a few others "Friday Night Lights" is my favorite sports movie ever. Definite 10 out of 10.
