great movie except...
For the scene with the coin flip. they cant tell heads from tails or keep the coin from rolling away?? It was like a bad comedy. Other than that great film even with the factual liberties.

shareThat and the QB's mom mumbling, "Come on Gains". Like he could of done anything to make the right coin flip. In fact that woman made this movie weird.
shareWinchell's mom was indeed very weird, and obviously Gaines could not do anything to influence the flip, but that part doesn't bother me. Lots of serious sports fans get very illogical when it comes to their favorite teams, coaches, players, and so on. Look at how many fans superstitiously insist on wearing their favorite shirt or socks, or having a certain ritual or routine on game day to give their team "good luck" even though obviously it has no actual impact on the game whatsoever. Very silly and borderline childish lol, but tons of people do it.
shareI thought we were told somewhere that really happened during the coin toss.
Ephemeron.
Yes, I believe it did happen. I've read the actual book twice (most recently probably about 7 or 8 years ago), and I'm 99% sure that in the book it happens just like it does in the movie--with a very old coin, and they can't tell for sure right away whether it's heads or tails, etc. Seems very hard to believe, but apparently that's how it actually happened in real life.
shareAs crazy as it sounds, it actually happened just like that. I've read the book twice, and that's how H.G. Bissinger (the author) describes it happening.
