Anybody hate this movie and love the series?

I keep hearing good things about the show, so I've planned to check it out soon. Tonight I decided to see the movie first, since it came first.

Worst movie I've seen in a long time. I had to force myself to finish it after taking huge breaks throughout.

Now I'm questioning whether to even bother with the show, even though I'm sure it's quite different, being a completely different storytelling format.

But this movie, with a 7.1, is relatively highly rated for a sports movie (I gave it a 2). Is there anybody out there who hated the movie but loves the series? Should I go ahead and try the show anyway?

Furthermore, how many episodes should I watch before I decide to quit if I'm not enjoying it?

I have never seen the show but honestly how can you hate the movie? For me it is the greatest sports movie of all time. The performances were excellent. Especially Billy Bob and Tim McGraw. The movie was very authentic. Not sure how you could hate it.

I agree.
I'm curious what the OP wanted from the film? This wasn't Disney.
This movie as a whole is underrated. I don't watch tv so I doubt I'll see the show. The film wrapped everything up good enough for me

I didn't like the movie at first either when I first saw it in the theater. However, I liked it much better when I saw it again on cable. I grew to appreciate the fact that it's different from other typical sports movies, and I grew to understand some of the themes presented in it better.

I can't recommend the T.V. show enough however. Some of the same themes and story lines may be repeated or repainted, but the stories are given more depth, and there is a much greater cast of relatable characters, some who aren't even involved with football.

I know 22 episodes can be a lot, but I recommend going watching the entire first season before you make up your mind. In my opinion, some of the storylines in the earlier episodes can be a little grating, and the show doesn't kick into it's highest gear until around either halfway or two thirds through the season. However, once it reaches that gear, it stays in that gear for the duration of the series, with the exception of much of Season 2.

The movie is okay. I love the tv show!!

Exact opposite. I loved the movie but hated the show. The series started out strong but by the end of the first season it was just another teen soap opera. I wasn't surprised at all when NBC cancelled it after the second season.

But were you surprised it got brought back for three more seasons with much acclaim?

I was just coming on here to see if anyone felt the same. Lol. Loved the series, one of the all time best. Didn't care for the movie.

Dimwitted rehash of every lame sports and sports movie cliché in existence.

Billy Bob must have needed some alimony money or something.

Just watched the film and it was good but not great...the TV show is amazing though, watch it!

I'm a bit surprised that people rate this so poorly. It is one of my favourite sports movies, along with Moneyball.

Get on the scale! Get off the scale.
