Why do black people always get killed off first?

Yet another movie where blacks are always the first of the main characters to go. you can predict like clockwork.

its true and there is a whole society dedicated to the 'black horror community.' I heard someone else say this and looked into it. Here is the link:

Well one quick look at "Blade" blows your theory out of the water , doesn't it ? Not only does he not get killed - he's the hero.

reply

There are always exceptions to the rule and it seems there is a 'rule' of some sort especially if you can only think of one movie where its broken.

reply

Alien and The Thing are a few other movies where blacks make it through the first round without getting whacked.

reply

There were black people in this movie?

I haven't seen this in ages though.

reply

ah good to know. I just happened upon the speculated phenomenon. I think the black community feels differently. But really i guess its like me saying. Girls are always made into sex objects in film...which really they are with the exception of a few smart movies. HA!

reply

Every rule has an exception and they say that the exception makes the rule. As for the OP's question, I'd say you'd have to ask the studios, the writers and the SAG. It seems like an institutional problem with scripts and Hollywood in general.

"Oh bother," said Pooh as he chambered another round.

reply

Seriously, you got this from the whole movie.... this is what stood out to you the most..... wow. It must be a conspiracy....... seriously come on man. Besides the first to die was an old white man. So there ya go.

I am watching it right now and the first human to get it is a heavy set older white guy.

So, where's the point of this thread?

Number 2 is a guy at the refinery, who is also white....

reply

Pay more attention pl0x. They said main character.

reply

I can fully agree. Just watched Dark Days. Only black member out of the resistance group and none of them have ever died until then, and it had to be him.

Although a little bit off topic:
Can´t help thinking of "Night of the living dead" where the main character (and my fav. hero) is black, survives all the badass zombies--and is killed by the rescue force. I don´t remember the details, but the way the film was made I always had the feeling, he was killed because he was black. Because nobody seemed to feel the need to check if he really was human or a zombie, they just killed him.
I still think they would have double-checked if he was a white guy.

But I must admit I never really recognized the "the black main character is killed first" stuff in movies. The first time i heard something like that was when they made fun of it in movies like "Deep blue sea".

LOL, a nice laugh on this chrismas day

Oh shuuuuuuuuuut uuuuuuuuuup ! Black people i know in London cringe at statements like that - we are in the 21st century now , wake up & smell the cool .

That which does not Kill me makes me Stranger . . .

reply

Wake up and smell the fried chicken. This is a well documented phenomena.

Yeah by idiots like you maybe .

Night of the livig Dead, House on Haunted Hill, Halloween H2O, Halloween Resurection, and a thousand other films (including this one for fug's sake) disprove this theory.

Fail.

OK, I'll be the first to bite.

Which black character ? I only remember the fat white dude at the surveillance station and the refinery workers (white) getting killed first.

In fact, I really can't remember a single black character in this movie. Is this a gigantic wooooosh?

Unless you're including Maori's.

reply

They don't. There are as many movies in which black epople don't die first as there are movies in which they do.

The Thing would be a strong example to the contrary. At the end a black man and a white man survive, and likely die together.

reply

The first "main" character to die is Isaac (a white guy) followed by Wilson (another white guy!)

I honestly can't think of a movie where the black guy is the first to die!
Name some for me.

In regards to black dudes getting "offed" first: what about young hot goofy teen-age chicks? How many Sy- Fy thrillers have you seen in which some silly-assed hot-bodied chick is killed b/c God blessed her with a great body but no brains?

Ugly people get killed early on too BTW...
