Great movie - very underrated
Loved the cinematography, makeup, etc.
Too often people look like supermodels with perfect skin, complexion, etc. I call it the soap opera effect.
This could just so easily have gone down that route aesthetically. Its a horror flick aimed at teens and young adults.
Instead, we get a movie that is well-casted and has an authentic look. The characters were interesting as well.
I was going to be very generous and compare the characterization to that in Alien. But it wouldn't be accurate since Alien had much slower pacing.
The key thing here with 30 Days was that while the pacing was faster, we get concise conversations/interactions that conceptualize each character. Whether superficially (like with the senile father) or symbolic (the dude who acted as an infiltrator; he was kind of an omen of things to come).
The length was good too - wasn't drawn out and was able to demonstrate some interesting aspects of the vampires in the movie's world (like how they use the one girl as bait or how they want humans to believe in them only as myth or the strong only survive mentality and the abject cruelty)..
Great movie with a lot of cool moments.
I'd make some changes here and there. I wish they contrasted the look of the movie when things go to *beep* with a more vibrant color scheme BEFORE the vampires show up. This would mean longer pacing. I think the fight scene at the end between Eben and Vicente was kind of abrupt.
I dont think you need to be an old, veteran vamp to fight well as a vamp. Eben could kick ass as a human and its not like he forgot any of his human fighting experience (assuming he had some/and his bravery).
But yea, kinda sudden.
ANyways rant off
