Josh Hartnett tough guy?

Hartnett has had a lot of roles of strong, masculine, alpha male guys. But I just can't swallow him in such movies, it destroys the movie to me as well. His acting is actually really good, he's up to the task, but that face of his is so sweetish that I can't find him convincing rather than as a young gigolo or a girls' favorite student.

I think that is why he was picked for the role. He's not ment to be the true protagonist. He's completely out matched and never truly stands a chance against the horde of death that befalls the town.

reply

He's cast as such in films aimed at adolescents, who really don't know what being a real man means.

'When you hang a man, you better look at him.'

You just can't swallow him?

Kinky.

You talk about tough when the guy would probably kick anyone of your asses. He's 6'3 and not scrawny when most of you idiots can't even throw a proper punch. Everyone acts like a tough guy until their fighting skills gets put on the line.

reply

I'm not talking about how tough he is personally, or how tough any of us are. I'm saying he's not tough enough for this role.

reply

He's not supposed to be as tough as these vampires. Do you know anyone who could fight these guys? If he and Stella would both have survived, or if he would have just killed all the vampires a la Terminator style, it would have just been another monster movie. Fun, but forgettable. I like the "everyman" characters; they make it much easier to get into the movie.

reply

Yes, but I'm not asking for a Terminator character here - the character is OK, but the actor should've been someone up to it - type of Christian Bale, Steve McQueen, I don't know. Someone less famous, but strong enough.

reply

Check out Penny Dreadful.
