Is this better than the original or should I not bother?

Because apart from an excellent opening scene, the first film went down the toilet very fast, never to recover, and I'd like to know if the sequel is better or not before I part with my hard-earned cash at the DVD rental.

Much obliged in advance :)

I liked the first one better.

Remember, remember the 5th of November

Yes, the first one is way better!
Even if it was also only a simple action movie, it was still enjoyable, while Transporter 2 is just typical Hollywood-like trash with ridiculous stunts and an unbelievable and unlogical story setup.

But tastes are different; so to the topic starter:
Since you didn't like the first movie, this one might appeal to you. If you liked for example Mission Impossible 2 or Triple X, this is definitely the film for you!

You've probably made your decision by now so .....

but anyway - opinions re: Transporter movies are as polarised(?) as opinions re: best Butterfly Effect ending. You'll find people loving 1+2, but hating 3 (I am one of those), others hating 1+2 but loving 3, and more loving 1+3 but writing off 2 as unbelievable.

Soooo, if you haven't made up your mind I'd suggest you give it ago. I, for one, loved 2.

The second one is way better. The first one may have been a more believable (on second thought, just less ridiculous) storlyline, but i found myself just not interested at all. The special effects were horrible, and the acting and attempts at humor were awful. But in transporter 2 they take on a new, stylish, up and coming french director, Louis Leterrier, who would later direct The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton, and also directed the underated Unleashed. The production company was able to keep on Luc Besson (director of The Proffessional, The Fifth Element) and a $35,000,000 budget compared to the original's $20,000,000. What you get is a very enjoyable and action packed movie with some very creative fight sequences (watch for the use of a fire hose lol) a better looking movie (cinematography wise and a crisper image) and great special effects. The acting isnt bad either. Sure Jason Statham isnt the greatest and i hated Kate Nauta (the very hot "assasin-like" girlfriend of the bad guy) but the role of the "cook" wasnt bad and the mother of the kidnapped boy played by Amber Valetta was believeable and Keith david had a good role as a as the FBI agent investigating the kidnapping. It's a great movie, if you dont think about it. I usually hate movies like this and tend to lean towards movie that are more intelectually suspensful then just brawn and special effects, but for some reason i loved it. Check it out.
