just remembered, what was the point of a child named 'Pierrot'?

I know a lot of French people. None are named Pierrot. It is the name of a sort of goofy, sort of tragic character as I remember it. There is also the film Pierrot le Fou. That also had something to do with Algerians in France.

So, is the name simply some sort of nod to that film since Cache is about teh massacre of Algerians in 1961 or does the name have some meaning that says something important about the son (or the people who named him that)?

Pierrot means "little Pierre". It is implied that Anne has an affair with big Pierre and most people take the name as a hint that Pierrot is actually Pierre's son.

I will now end this debate with you.

Thanks for that insight. I hadn't thought of that. I thought of the classic "Pierrot" character. In such a symbolic movie, the big / little idea is a good bet.
