was this movie a slam on gay males?

They were really ridiculed, wouldn't you say?

reply

Lots of things were ridiculed.

Using this put-down has been around for DECADES. It's what dumb school kids call things they don't like. It really has a lot more to do with not fitting in (smart, well-spoken, not too into sports) then anything else.

So....relax. The moment you think something is anti-anything, it probably isn't.

A very intelligent response, Mr. Ed. It's sort of like the race card. When the Libs can't refute your argument they just call you a racist.

So there's no racism? It's just liberals losing arguments?

reply

If anything, I think straight guys were more ridiculed, by being constantly shown as equating smart to gay, and gay to bad.

No. This was a slam against 'Merica!!! 'Merica was and always has been anti gay. Those who see this as satire understand that any intelligent person has a level of acceptance and sympathy. However the 'Merica that this satire thinks our culture is moving towards is absolutely and utterly anti-gay. That's why when I first saw this movie I wanted to find it funny. However, it made me really sad because I could see it portraying an all too true direction our society was heading.

Nah I don't think so. I think it was more a slam against the generic hillbilly white trash who hates gay people. All the slanders against gay people were coming from the mouths of characters who were unquestionably dumb and unintelligent.
