Hey, at least the people here are AWARE they are idiots

As long as they know that, they can fix their issues.

Which they do:
- Set up tests to detect the smartest person around (Luke Wilson)
- Get that person straight to the White House and in charge of fixing things
- FOLLOW that person's advice.

I mean, we can't do any of this things in USA today precisely because we have ambitions idiots whom think they are the bomb (Trump, Sarah Palin, etc).

So in that sense, USA is actually worse off than in the movie!!

There's a reason why Socrates was a wise man: not because he was smart (in his own words, he knew nothing), but because he KNEW he knew nothing (he compared himself to the other "wise" people in Athens whom in his opinion were just as ignorant but unlike him thought of themselves as smart, thus next to them, he was wise for being aware of his own ignorance).

The people in the movie are just as wise. Unfortunately we are not.

reply

I don't think you understand the meaning of "idiot".

He really didn't.

I don't know either of you but judging by the posts in this thread you haven't displayed any intelligence what so ever. You just made two snarky posts. Both were just one line. I'm not even sure why you bothered. Trouble at home? 😧

Anyway, this is where you accuse me of being a sock account.

Um, ncdwb have you ever studied philosophy?

Question: What's the difference between a philosopher and a mathematician?

Answer: A philosopher needs two things: pencil and paper. A mathematician need three things: pencil, paper and wastebasket.

That world pretty much sucked, but I do agree that they were at least trying to find intelligent people to solve their problems. That's about the only thing we could use from this film. Other than to try to get the intelligent people to breed more and the stupid people to stop having children altogether.

"Other than to try to get the intelligent people to breed more and the stupid people to stop having children altogether"

Besides the eugenics overtones of that, have you ever considered that smart people don't have many kids BECAUSE they precisely spent most of their lives dedicated to their crafts? People like Mozart and Einstein were whom they were due to spending most of their time studying/practicing their craft/skills (Einstein clearly stated genious was over 90% sweat, and the rest inspiration, meaning it's mostly hard work).

Kinda hard to do that when having to support a large family (unless you find a woman willing to become de facto enslaved to the home and kids's upbringing).

Dumb (and/or poor) people don't have that problem. Most times their consolation is having a large family and they put the kids to work instead of studying, perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

Yeah, I get it, lol. I watched the same movie you did. It wasn't rocket science. But it appears we are slowly heading that way. Want proof? Check out Donald Trump's poll numbers.

How do we stop that? Simple, the right people need to breed. It sounds harsh, but dumb people make dumb babies. Smart people are having less and less kids. Luckily I'll be dead before the 5h*t really hits the fan.

reply

How do you define "dumb"? Donald Trump isn't dumb, in a legitimate mentally disabled way, if that's what you mean. If anything, the most dangerous people are the ones who are smart, or at least of average intelligence, but are willfully ignorant, greedy and selfish. They can be intelligent, academically speaking, but stupid in a humanitarian way. None of that has anything to do with breeding.

Neither is Clinton. She's an arrogant, contemptible, lowlife liar who is only interested in power, money and herself. And if you or I did half the things she has done we would be in prison right now. She let four Americans die in Benghazi, and then lied to Congress and their families about it. Then later she said "What does it matter?" And at least four of her political enemies died (or were murdered) mysteriously in the past few years. The message was clear: Don't get in the way of the Clinton Machine!

She and her trailer park trash husband went from dirt poor to multi millionaires by selling America to the highest foreign bidder, especially those who harbor and fund Islamic Terrorists!

And anyone who supported her is an idiot.

And she LOST the election!!! And the Left was too arrogant and dense to see it coming.

God Bless Donald Trump! His election has SAVED this country!

The US and UK played a big part in causing problems in the middle east. Also, Trump is a capitalistic businessman. I don't think he particularly cares for people in poverty.

Now let me tell you why a man who puts his name in giant letters on every single thing he makes (and a lot of which he doesn't, but licenses his name to be slapped on anyway) and is constantly bragging about how much money and influence he has is the savior this country needs!"

reply

I would argue smart people are only dangerous, when there are stupid people around for them to control.

reply

Hmm... firstly, you don't have to be Mozart or Einstein to be smart. Or indeed spend your entire life fully engrossed in your craft. It is obvious what he means by smart, to everyone that is.

Secondly, perhaps eugenics needs to be studied more, offically? (Because you know it's happening somewhere anyway) It's rather unfortunate that such an interesting form of science (at least on an intellectual level), has forever been tarnished by the Nazis. It's a shame Hitler wasn't a global warming denier.

I think you'd agree, conventional evolution would usually dictate that the stupid/weak would slowly be "phased out," to put it Mengele-ish. But in our case (humans), we have a bastardized version of evolution whereby some of the population are creating spectacular advancements intellectually and physically, that often give power to all, but don't take into account that it includes our lowest common denominators. As they are able to piggyback through life on the smarter/saner people, without ever having to ackowledging it. They have time to breed, grow in number and power, yet never progress intellectually.

I guess my point is, smart/sane people need to stop giving stupid people weapons, access to unregulated media, and votes. Especially votes.

I disagree completely with the logic of allowing any old idiot to vote. We don't ask the cretins to judge whether or not someone is qualified to be a doctor or pilot do we? No, we try to ensure that professionals, who are learned in medicine and aviation, make those decisions for us. I understand the potential for corruption when you control votes like that, but corruption is better than destruction.

Perhaps it is time for democracy to evolve.

The original poster is right. At least the people of Idiocracy realised they were stupid and valued intelligent people, even though they didn't always understand the protagonist and occasionally tried to kill him.

If the real-world US government found a person with an IQ of 250, I doubt very much they would invite the person to the White House and ask them to solve all the country's or the world's problems.
