Bourne, Gardener, Condor
As Quayle walks through a station in Germany, glancing this way and that, I was immediately put in mind of Bourne Identity. I looked up the dates of the novels, and Bourne predated Gardener by 25 years. Did one influence the other. Or were they both derivative of movies like Three Days of the Condor which was written even before the Bourne novels? Or maybe "agent gone off the reservation" is just an established genre dating many years into the past.
