Fatal Distraction (Canada)/Who's at the Controls? (USA)

Question #1: The air traffic controller, Charlie Johnson, checked in with the flight when the altitude was 900 ft. Why didn't he tell the captain about this? Instead he just said "How are things going there?" WTF?

Question #2: When a passenger said "don't light a match"! in the gas filled swamp, I thought, (I hope nobody has one! If they did, how did they get on the plane! Oh boy!)

I watched the episode again. To answer question number 1, I realized it wasn't his job. Good grief.

This accident happened in 1974, where ATC protocol lingo was not as specific as it is today.

Also, you could still smoke on airlines up until 1986, so a passenger could have had matches or a lighter on them.

These particular accidents show how the aviation industry made landmark changes to it operating procedures to make flying safer.

Girl... Just what exactly is that tacky outfit trying to say?

You can still take a lighter on an airplane, or at least you could in August 2008 when I last flew or maybe they just didn't care because they saw it. My friend and I left our gate twice to go out and have a cigarette and each time we had to go back through security and place our cigs and lighters in the basket.

As far as I'm aware every person is allowed only one lighter with them.
