S04E04 - Final Approach
This thread really doesn't pose any questions, but I just wanted to make it anyways after just seeing this episode about the Korean Air Flight 801. It's the one where the pilots landed a few kilometers short of the runway in Guam, and more than 200 people perished while only 26 survived.
Anyways, one survivor from New Zealand, Barry Small IIRC, was quite frustrated in his interview because he had some great ideas for improvement in aircraft safety, but no one seemed to be listening. Well, I just flew quite a few times last month and hope he would be happy to know some of these ideas are being incorporated. One of them was a re-design of the seats, so that they wouldn't have these bars on the back of the seats that easily break people's legs in crashes and emergency landings. I've seen in many of the Boeings and Airbuses I've flown with the new kind of design, without the bars. The other idea of his was to forbid putting tax free alcohol and other alcoholic products in the overhead compartments to improve fire safety. While flying with Air Europa last month, I was baffled when the cabin crew informed us that no liquids can be stored in the overhead compartments, since I couldn't figure out why not. This is the only airline where I've heard these instructions, but at least that's something. Nice to know now why that was.
Well, no way will Barry ever see this message but hope he knows anyways that his ideas have been listened to.
