Lost its magic after season 8...

In the first 8 seasons the scenarios were more gripping, suspense stronger, the acting was better and we got to focus on the passengers more. Not to mention, in the latter seasons they tend to crash the plane quickly (not much focus on passengers and character development).

Now they seem to be turning a slight plane scratch into an 'Air Crash Investigation' episode (i.e. Qantas).

Btw, the Air France one in season 12 reminded me of the show's golden era episodes (season 1-5)...

Keeping the so-called "character development" to a minimum is a very good idea - there`s enough cheesy stuff already in the cockpit scenes. And the Qantas thing was hardly a "scratch" - with systems failing allover the place, it came pretty close to yielding one of the most deadly disasters in the history of commercial aviation.

The near crashes can be really shocking. Like the one where the windscreen popped off in flight and sucked the airliner's main pilot out. Then, as a flight attendant held on to the pilot's legs for dear life, the co-pilot had to land the plane with 400 mph wind blowing into his face. Those people should have been dead and yet not even the pilot died. But they still had to find out what caused the malfunction. So it's just as interesting, just without the mind-staggering death toll and the sifting wreckage for black boxes.
