Malaysia Airlines flight MH370
This has the characterestics of so many episodes. Any theories?

shareWhat a horrible situation for the passengers of that flight and the loved ones who are still waiting to find out where the wreckage actually is and what happened to it! Apparently the waters around the place the plane supposedly must have crashed are relatively shallow (about 100m if I remember correctly, in comparison to the Air France crash where the depth was 4000m it certainly makes for an easier search) so it should help in locating the plane and the black boxes.
I'm hoping in the end it turns out to be a mere technical problem, at least those can be improved on and try to avoid further tragedies like this. There is so much shady stuff in this accident, like the pilots apparently having let people who shouldn't be let into the flight deck (Kid in the cock pit anyone?) Not to even mention the passport hassle, but if the reports coming in about that are true it had probably more to do with the two men in possession of those wanting to get easy access to the Schengen area, not terrorism. They didn't even want to be on that exact flight if the reports are accurate.
My passport was stolen in Peru - coming from the Ecuadorian border - some time ago. While I obviously informed the police and my embassy that it got stolen, I hate the idea that it's circulating somewhere in South America (or wherever it is at the moment) just waiting to be misused. I always assumed that if my stolen passport has been reported to the Interpol some warning would flash in the system when it's checked on a computer on an airport or whichever passport check. But apparently this is not the case.
Anyways, RIP everyone who got killed on the flight no matter what the cause: technical problems, human error or negligence, or terrorism. Because while obviously we have no idea what happened, I think the hope of finding any survivors is quite slim.
The Helios accident in Greece comes to my mind. Slow depressurisation and the crew and everybody on board gets unconscious.
shareI thought of that one as well but it doesn't explain the sudden loss of the transponder and data links. I was then leaning towards a on-board fire but one aviation expert mentioned what would be involved for a the redundant systems to be affected in such a short time span. It doesn't seem likely that a fire would be able to accomplish that. As the op stated, so many similarities to other incidents. A very strange case that may take months or years to resolve. I hope for the sake of the crew & passengers families that I'm wrong.
share"But it doesn`t explain the sudden loss of the transponder and data links".
It also doesn`t explain the aircraft veering wildly off its designated flight path to which the autopilot was set - if the reports saying such a deviation actually happened, are indeed correct. And if the plane really did head out towards Indian ocean, as the latest speculations suggest, then together with the transponder having been switched off, and all communication with ATC/airline cut off, it does seem to point to a hijacking - one that probably ended in a crash... somewhere. But the whole thing really does seem to get stranger by the day - even AF 447 in 2009 now appears a rather un-mysterious accident by comparison as at least `some` things were known right off the bat.

You got that right about stranger by the day. Now this:

Egypt Air 990
Looking back at the Helios incident it could be the hijackers incapacitated the passengers by depressurizing the cabin which could have happened when the plane went up to 45,000 feet.

But if it was a pilot suicide, why steer the plane off course and fly on for several hours before actually crashing it?
It does seem very probable though that the B777 was hijacked with the help of at least one pilot - considering how difficult it is these days for unauthorized personnel to get into the cockpit and how professionally the plane was apparently flown after the "disappearence".

they were drunk.

Air Crash Investigation frequently pops into my head whenever I see info about MH370. Lets face it, ACI's future episode on MH370 is going to be fuqking EPIC!!!! There is sooooo much information, so soooo many false leads etc, that one 50 min episode won't be enough to cover this crash. Maybe a double episode is needed? At least?
shareGood theory here

He`s awful sure of himself, but certainly makes a solid case. Fires on planes are a devilish thing.

Yes, they'll definitely pull a 'Deathly Hallows' by making two episodes on MH370...
I know it's a real life tragedy we're talking about, but I can't wait to watch it - it will be one entertaining episode.
Well, they made one recently. It was full of hypothetical theories.
They should've waited until they'd found the black box...
Haven't seen the episode, but I recently read an article according to which "a commonly held belief" amongst aviation professionals is that Malaysian 370 was another pilot suicide. All speculation, but certainly the time taken & knowledge put to use to reprogram the autopilot on a course to nowhere (and stop all data flow) seems to speak for it. As for waiting till the black boxes are found, by this point I wouldn't hold out much hope they'll ever be recovered.
