Finally a major incident from the past!

I know I commented earlier I wish this show would feature more prominent early accidents.

Finally the Grand Canyon at least!

Great show! They did an excellent job with the period recreations, considering their budget is probably very small. In a way, the show was more exciting because, in the absence of the microscopically detailed investigations, with aircraft reassembly, radar data, CVR, FDR and so forth that we have now, there was a heavy reliance on visual recreation of the accident.

With increasing commercial air travel came increasingly crowded skies. It should have been obvious that better air traffic control was needed; how sadly typical that it took a disastrous accident to force the issue.

Those planes were quite beautiful, too.

They really ought to do the New York City Air Disaster of 1960, another horrible mid-air collision.

I wish they would too. I lived on that street for a couple of years and noticed the odd repairs to the roof lines of some of the buildings but had no idea why they were like that. Was amazed when someone explained it to me and told me about the church that was destroyed.

Why? The whole point of these shows is to get experts to figure out the mystery behind why a crash happened, especially if it's caused by surprising or unusual circumstances. There was nothing unusual or mysterious about that air crash.

I remember also seeing the episode about the Manchester United team crash in Germany, was it ?

reply

Yes, the German's blamed the pilot while the British blamed the effects of slush, which was poorly understood until the 1990's, if you can believe it.

I wish they would an episode on the Comet -- a really interesting story. Seconds From Disaster did one and it was very good, and would love to see ACI do one as well. While it's still being produced...
