Brendan Fraser would've been another great choice...

Will Smith was perfect as "Alex Hitchens," I must say. Everything about the character just worked for Will Smith's acting habits and quirks.

But as I was watching this for the fourth time it suddenly occurred to me that Brendan Fraser would've also been perfect for this role, especially considering many of the speeches Hitch makes throughout the film. The writer's comedy implemented fits right in with Brendan's good-boy/sleek-talk/one-liner technique of delivery. Sure, there were many points throughout the film where Smith improvised, but I can't help but wonder what Fraser would've done with this.

Any thoughts?

Agree... Brendan is underrated, even if Will Smith was fine here

nope. Brendan IS overrated. IMO.

...I don't think so. I think Brendan is under the radar as far as artistic filmmaking goes. I mean, even comedians like Jim Carrey have gotten incredibly dramatic, serious roles that were recognized, but whenever Brendan got something even close to that it was for an unknown film, or else the public didn't really pay any attention to it.

...I don't think he's underrated or overrated because there's nothing "rated" about this guy. I mean, you don't hear about many people mailing him hundreds of fan letters like Tom Cruise or Hannah Montana (who are both dreadfully overrated, though Cruise is a better actor). Whenever he's in a big-budget, highly-publicized film, the film usually turns out in the B-movies list, like "Journey to the Center of the Earth", or the newest Mummy film.

Didn't think about that until this thread. But, I agree to a certain extent. I think Will hit it perfectly in this film. I think that over all, this is his best acted film. Brendan doesn't have the slick aura that Will can pull off. I can't see him performing the moves on the ladies like Hitch did and make it believable.

I have to agree with you omoxus, I also would place this film as Will Smith's best acted...

for some reason i see Brendan Fraser being better suited for the "Albert Brennaman" role. the only problem is that he's in good shape and being in good shape isn't really comedic/lovable, kevin james was the perfect fit for the part.

Personally, I can definitely see Ryan Reynolds as Hitch.
