Thomas Howell was only 38 in this????

I'm just a couple of years younger than him and it's now 2024 and I thought man, he didn't hold up so well, he's aged like milk, too bad. He looks at least ten years older than me. THEN I found out this movie was TWENTY YEARS ago!!! My god. What the hell happened to him??? He was only 38 in this!! How could he have aged so badly in so short of time? And hell, what the F does he look like NOW?!?!?! Does/did he have some major illness like cancer? Hard drugs? I feel kind of sorry for him. Wow. I went through his IMDb resume and the last movie I saw him in was Acting on Impulse with Linda Fiorentino in 1993 and he was still youthful and pretty hot for 27. I just wonder what happened in those 11 years to make him age so badly? And going through IMDb it looks like he's been a pretty steady/prolific actor to this day, so maybe I've seen him in things and just haven't recognized him? I wish him well.
