DVD made by Good Times (defective?)

I purchased 2 brand new unopened DVD copies of this movie and neither one would play on my combo DVD/VCR player or my computer dvd-rom, they both kept saying 'Check disk for stains or scratches on DVD'.

Then I read this post on Amazon about A Boyfriend for Christmas by KittyKins:
"This is a really nice movie and anyone who likes a good romance will really enjoy it. The problem with this dvd is that the digital copyright protection prevents it from being played properly on computers or dvd/vcr combo machines. It works fine on machines that contain only a dvd player. I found this to be extremely frustrating and inconvenient. I wound up with 2 dvd's and they both behaved in the same way."

So I dug out my old machine that plays DVD's only and it played fine! Finally got to watch the Movie and it was great! Thank you KittyKins for the information.
