Do we know for sure that he turned it down? I'm only asking because maybe they just came up with a story that had no place for him in it, and consequently he was never asked... ?
Also, not so long ago he admitted that he doesn't have to work now unless he really likes the project. Yes, in the past he's taken on movies to pay for houses and stuff when he was younger, but maybe at his age he's comfortable enough simply to enjoy retirement these days unless an offer that he absolutely cannot refuse suddenly comes in?
