Why can't I find the DVD on Ebay or Amazon???

Ok-I'm a little irked. I want to see this movie sooooo bad and I've been waiting forever it seems. I have to just accept the fact that it will not be coming to Kansas City...ever. But people have posted that they've rented the movie and its out on dvd in NZ, so why can't I find it on ebay or amazon? Does anyone know where I can find a copy??

Live in what you love.

The reason you cannot find it that easily is probably the fact that it is out only in Australia and New Zealand. This means that the DVD has a region 4 coding. If I remember correctly the US is region 1. Besides that they use a PAL-system for the television, I think in the US it is NTSC. They are not compatable. Unless you have a fancy DVD-player that is region-free and can play PAL-format on a NTSC-television you will not be able to play this DVD.If you still want it try Google and simply search for the DVD. You will be able to find some webshops in australia who sell it.

You can order it from here: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/778883

My guess is that it should play on a DVD-ROM, however, I doubt it will play on a stand alone player. It's weird, because even cheap DVD/VHS players in Australia have both PAL/NTSC compatibility, but from what I've heard, PAL players in America are very expensive.

I ordered it from www.amazon.de (Germany)

If I have an Apple computer, can I Play region 4 DVD's, 'cause somehow my friend sawe this movie and she said I HAVE to see it and I cannot find it anywhere and will not be in the US when it might be coming out in May...please, I think I really need to see this movie.

I don't know a lot about computers but I think there is a program that you can install that will enable you to play dvds from any region. Also, you might want to look into getting a code free dvd player which will play any region dvds. I know that Amazon.UK is selling this in region 2 format. I hope that helps a little.

Thank you, any ideas on how much a code free DVD player costs and can I just get one at any electronics store? Or where I might be able to get that computer program, 'cause if it's less expenseive than the new DVD player, I'll opt for that instead.

reply

I purchased my code free dvdplayer at a online store called www.220-electronics.com
It cost me about $100.00 with shipping. As far as the computer program goes I will ask around to see where you can get it and how much it is. As far as the code free dvd player goes, I believe it was worth while purchase because I live in the US and love films from Europe and as you know its a different region.

You are my new best friend...thank you.

Will it maybe play on an xbox or ps2?

reply

Well, I've heard that a $40 Cyberhome multi-format dvd player from best buy is quite easy to change to region free and am planning on getting one.

reply

I heard from a friend that most new computers will play any region DVD, some require you to do something to change the setting, but most will just play the DVD, is that right?

reply

There is a program called VLC player that lets you play any dvd on your computer. It somehow bypasses region coding. I use it here in Australia to play region 1 dvds. Not sure if its compatible with Mac though. Just google for VLC player and you'll find it. It's free as well.

jbhifi.com.au is also pretty decent. I got Shawshank and Goodfellas collectors editions for $12.95 aud. In this part of the world, thats pretty good value.
