A couple questions (spoilers inside)

For anyone that has seen this movie, I have a couple questions. There is a particular scene in the movie where Paul and Celia are sitting on a cliff overlooking some gorgeous scenery and Celia thanks him for making her time at the den so special. My friend and I were having a discussion about that scene and he thinks that she could be referring to something that happened between them, possibly of a sexual nature. I disagree and feel that nothing like that went on because that would've been incest. My friend also said that they cut some scenes out of the version that we saw and maybe there was a scene that showed somthing like that? I was just wondering what anyone else thought that saw this movie. A great film by the way! Thanks!

Nope - don't think anything of an incestuous nature happened. I think he suspects that she's his daughter from pretty early on. She obviously has a huge crush on him initially though. However I think her comment is inspired by the fact that he treats her like an adult, takes her seriously and encourages her ambition to be a writer.

Movie = no
Book = yes...something like that happens

He knows about their true relationship from the beginning. So, no, there is no sex. But there is a degree to which the director tries to make us a bit suspicious of Paul's motives.

This film is quite unusual structurally in that we don't know everything the main character knows. That is a tough trick to pull off. How do you get the audience to emphathise fully with a character if we don't know exactly what their feeling. Some how this film does it.

I haven't read the book but obviously the film makers have and you...what happens? thanks

hi there... first of all you are forgetting that CELIA heard her mother having a small chat with Paul after he and her boyfriend had a fight, and she realised that there was a secret about who was her father. and after that she asked Paul if he had something to tell her. So on the cliff scene she couldn't be refering to a sexual thing. I just thought that she was refering to him making her life better, to do something with her life, to have won the contest that kind of thing. I agree that on the beggining she had a crush on him but that vanished with the secret of who was her father. And she probably thought that he was her father or that he knew something about it, and the confirmation camed when she found the foto and when her mather toll her the truth.... hope this would help...... tiago from portugal
