Sex Scene with Paul? (Question and Spoiler)

Just wondering,

in that scene where he picks up the chick from the bar, and she says kiss me, what was the purpose of pulling that belt out? What did that do, I'm watching it in class and studying it, and it just made no sense to me whatsoever, my whole class was confused! Haha!
So yeah, my question is, what is the belt and the point of pulling it out and putting it around his neck?

my impression was that Paul was in to auto-erotic asphyxiation. as in, he choked himself to get off.

Indeed, that is the case.

If the OP saw the uncut version then he saw the whole scene. Oddly enough, it's cut from the UK version however. I've never seen IMFD with this scene edited out - the theatrical version I saw at a film sestival had it, as does the R4 DVD.

the purpose is to show how paul almost relates sex with death, he saw his father having sex with jax then his mother killing herself. it also shows how both the brothers have issues - on the otherside of the flashback that follows this scene andrew is shown in bed with penny and turns away from her telling her to "go back to sleep". these brothers have both been affected by something, but at this point the audience doesnt know what, it helps to create suspense
