The most unbearably sad film I have ever seen.

I feel like I've just been mind raped by the most beautifully tragic film I've ever seen. I finished watching 20 minutes ago and I'm still crying. I have never felt such empathy for characters and story as this. It has destroyed me, I'm a *beep* mess. I can't even describe or even understand why I feel this way but it has touched something very deep inside me.

This is a beautiful and painfully tragic story of innocence, secrets and betrayal. Played exquisitely by the cast and told with devastating effect by Brad McGann. Kudos to all concerned and thank you.

yes it was a beautiful and sad film but "Grave of the Fireflies" is still the saddest movie i've ever seen. (not that its a competition or anything). I love movies that haunt you for months after you have seen them.

Then you probably don't want to watch 'Once Were Warriors'- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110729/- another masterpiece from NZ.

Once were Warriors is not sad. It is deplorable. The film glorifies the violence, sex and booze that passes for culture amongst Maori these days.

We seem to have different definitions of the word "glorifies", at least in terms of a movie which illustrates problems which are not exclusive to the indigenous people of New Zealand.

Yes, I just watched it and I feel like I have been holding my breath for the whole movie, and only now I get to breathe.
