please help me think of the name of this movie

it is similar to house of flying daggers, hero, crouching tiger, but i can't for the life of me think what it's called. i watched it a year or so ago, and all i can remember was a boy and a girl on horses in the desert, and a love scene in a cave? please help, because i've been loving these types of movies very much and would like to track this one down. thanks ahead of time.

It's a long shot, but could it be Kar-Wai Wong's Ashes of Time?

Dave Jenkins. Calder Benson. Jim Cooper. Chuck Youngblood.

reply

no, that's not it. thanks though. it's newer than that one...i really wish i could remember more about it. we were drinking when we watched it a couple years ago...it's really bugging me. i go a little loopy when i can't remember things, and this one has been irking me for over a week.

all i can remember is a boy and a girl riding white horses in the desert. and for whatever reason, they're not allowed to be together so they're hiding out in the desert in a cave, then there's a love scene, and the girl is amazingly beautiful...i really wish i could offer more hints, but that's all i have.

Hm, you should post this on other more active boards. I was also struggling to find the name of three movies I saw a long time ago, and I got my answers on the "I want to know" and "Film Classic" boards (they were old American movies). Maybe you should ask about this movie on the "I want to know", "Asian movies" and "Film General" boards?

Dave Jenkins. Calder Benson. Jim Cooper. Chuck Youngblood.

Seven Swords, or Curse of the Golden Flower perhaps?

Seven Swords is so great. Not so much on the beautiful side like HoFD, but great nonetheless.

Are you sure its not Crouching Tiger? I seem to recall time spent discussing the back story of one of the characters. A nomad (i donno what else to call him) raids a girl while traveling and takes her comb. Like any girl would she decides to beat him up for it. She collapses after traveling in the desert and he takes her back to his cave. (Note this is just what i remember, so prob plenty of inaccuracies) Check out this photo from CTHD, maybe it will confirm that its the movie. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3010107648/tt0190332

Hope this helps...?

"A nomad (i donno what else to call him)"

He is likely supposed to be an Uigur, since that part of the story is set in Xinjiang. The Uigur are Muslims and speak a Turkish language. They are frequently in conflict with the Chinese government since they want to form their own state called East Turkestan.

The character's faith is possibly hinted at in one line of the movie, when telling his newfound love a local legend, as he mentions "God" in what seems to be the singular. The Chinese of the time were polytheists, so talking about God with the capital G stands out a little.

Much to my annoyance the guy is played by a Han Chinese actor. Were there really NO ethnic Uigur actors they could have cast for the part?

sounds like crouching tiger to me. they run around in the desert on white horses, the do it in a cave, and they're hiding because her father is a dignitary and his people are looking for her. are you SURE it's not crouching tiger? look up ziyi zhang and see if that's the "hot chick" you're thinkin of.

it might crouching tiger, i might just be confused. i'll have to watch it again. i remember it being a newer movie though...i could easily be wrong. if it isn't clear from my other posts, i wasn't paying close enough attention when i saw it, and it had been a few years since i'd seen it. thanks everybody.
