is this as good as spartacus?

i'm sure it isnt as violent or obscene as a lot of the episodes in spartacus. but is it s entertaining? do we get to see a lot of action?

i thoroughly enjoy a lot of movies/shows that have to do with anything from this time period. they're usually violent though and deal with gladiators of course. i dont really care about how accurate it is as long as it doesn't drag on and try to be something that it is.

Better written and acted; not quite as much action, but you should enjoy it.

Two totally different shows. From fabular and historical point of view, nothing is as good as ROME. ROME is a quality itself. Spartacus is a great entertainment and an endless parade of great shaped bodies;)

reply

Spartacus was surprisingly good imo, I only watched one season though, I hate it when they swap actors. However Rome is way better, just less action.

Good for you. I watched season 2 and o boy that season was sooooo BAD i cant even describe it to you. Especially if you compare it to season 1.

reply

I mean for Spartacus. Rome is more than masterpiece anyway.

reply

He had to be 'swapped around'. Andy whitfield died.

Spartacus isnt in season 2 anyway. It's a prequel, you know, because the actor tragically got cancer and died. Spartacus wasnt recast until season 3.

reply

They had to swap actors as the original actor who played Spartacus died of Cancer.

As good as Spartacus? 

When I first started watching Spartacus I thought that some porn studio was making a parody of Rome. I am not kidding..

It was only when I saw John Hannah that I realized that it was suppose to be serious TV show. 

Spartacus would not have existed without Rome, and its pale in comparison.

S. has its own merits, but it's not on the same level of quality AT ALL.

The writing, the setting, the story,... nearly everything is better in the Rome serie.

Spartacus is a gilty pleasure.

Rome is one of the best serie of all time. No kidding.

reply

Spartacus is more fictional, but both shows complement each other. Spartacus shows us one side( against Rome) and Rome shows us the other. You will not regret watching Rome after Spartacus. And if you are into that kind of shows I urge you to watch Black sails. Also made by Starz.

reply

Not to disparage Spartacus, which is an entertaining show in its own right, but Rome is much, much better.

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

reply

Totally agree. Spartacus has its merits no doubt there. Rome is what I would call a historical account of Roman life and ways. Spartacus does have some history in it but it is heavily fictionalized ( M. Crassus and Caesar for example never went together to catch Spartacus)

only if you can believe that the rotund ian mcneice is roman....off to hurl

reply

why not? Nero for instance was fat, ginger, and blue-eyed - a lot more Ian McNeice than Russell Crow.

After all is said and done, a lot more will have been said than done.

I personally love both shows. While it's obvious that Spartacus wouldn't have existed without Rome, it's clear that Spartacus' antecedents lie in 300, with it's slow motion and blood splattered cg. Some would argue that Rome is a matured version of the same ''genre'', while others would say that Spartacus is Rome on drugs. Each to his own. I'd personally state that Rome is the better of the two.

reply

There is no better show than Rome, especially if you love Rome time of history. Spartacus season 1 was really good i enjoy it a lot, but season 2 was sooooo BAD that totally destroyed that series. Anyway go watch Rome if you didnt already, i assure you that you wont regret...
