'Who Can Live In A Van The Longest' Spenny Lost!!!

I just finished watching this episode (again) and realized that Spenny actually lost the competition! At the beginning of the show, they listed the rules. Kenny stated that "you must stay in the van". It was even written on the white board.
Spenny jumped onto the roof at least twice during the competition. Once when the smoke bomb went off, then again to sleep up there. He left in the inside of the van twice!! Wouldn't that mean he lost?
At the end of the competition, it was a draw.
Am i missing something?

Yeah I noticed that after rewatching it. The rules clearly established that if you leave the van, you lose. Technically he left the van so the competition should have ended there.

I'm not sure why this was the case.

It was also on the White board although not brought up by either of them that you have to touch the ground before you lose.
