I also thought this movie was great.. When I first watched it i had never heard of it before and it appeared to be another canadian disappointment. Boy, was I wrong. The movie was well written, and the characters well developed. I was inspired by the faith of the characters no matter how misled. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is thinking about watching it.
share"Another Canadian disappointment"? - I'd like to see your list of these disappointments. Everytime I watch a Canadian film it usually is very well crafted and wonderfully acted.
shareI thought this was a great movie too. It was really enjoyable and it could have had two different endings and it would still be good.
shareYeah, you gotta love this movie if not for it's offbeat charm alone!!!
sharebump!!!
shareAs "great" and inspiring the movie may have seemed I'm surprised none of you were bored by how dry the acting was and clichéd the way the movie's message was portrayed. Campbell Scott almost never changed the tone of his voice throughout the movie and the same can be pretty much said about the other actors. As uplifting as the message of this movie is, what is more important is how that message is portrayed to the audience. I could give a more detailed criticism but in the end the best I would give the film is a 4/10.
shareI'm glad most people just see it as a geat little film and most don't see it the way you do. I didn't find the acting "dry" at all. Anyone I know who has actually seen this film loves it!

I was extremely disappointed with this movie. What is the fascination with adolescent masturbation? I thought for sure it was written by a frustrated middle-aged woman but was wrong. Maybe the writer was a priest. Once the movie moved away from masturbation and focused on the running it got better.
Adam Butcher was not a good actor and his running form was horrible; something I'd think his "coach" would address or at least comment upon.
It was a nice story with a feel good ending (sans the sex in the church vestibule) but not a great movie. Children of Heaven was a better movie about kids running and Marathon (starring Bob Newhart) was a better movie about Marathoning.
The idea of sin and purity is central to the plot, which is why masturbation crops up in it. It also serves to make Ralph more of an outcast.

I really thought this was a great movie. The young actor that played Ralph was excellent.
Everybody needs their own theme music in life. What's your?
I quite enjoyed this movie, which is unusual because I don't care for most drama movies that were made in recent years. But this is very entertaining and endearing, marred only by a rather flat ending. Well done.
Are you kidding? The storyline was a fable, and a fantastic one at that. As it unfolded, I kept worrying that it would go over-the-top and be so unbelievable it would ruin it, but it kept such tight control, that never happened. The acting was pitch perfect for the genre. This movie is a gem. I LOVED it.
