I would say so, it also gives sympathy to the girls who wanted abortions during this period. They were not vunerable as the Judge described when Vera was sentenced but desperate.
"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".
The purpose was to show that wealthy women could afford to buy themselves a psychiatrist, tell a fib, then get a nice, safe abortion in a clean, safe environment while poor women were left to rot. Tough luck, babe, and all....had whatshisface raped a poor woman, she'd be SOL if it weren't for someone like Vera.
