This is a great film 2 see every few years IMO
This film aired on my cable premium movie channel (Encore) tonight, & how much more amazing it is every time I see it! I bought this film for my collection when I first saw it in '05 or '06. The special features included in the DVD purchase are excellent. This is such a fine story 2 tell on so many levels. Although a piece of me now sees her as Delores Umbridge first (I'm also a Potterhead) I do wish she'd gotten the Oscar when she was nominated for 'Vera Drake.' In my own movie cabinet, I also bought 'Veronica Guerin' with Cate Blanchett & it's next 2 'Vera' on my shelf (it's from '98 I think). I have some problems with 'Veronica' mostly because it was an Irish film, depicting Irish events affecting their national life, and our American Jerry Bruckheimer directed. We American movie lovers have become more cosmopolitan at last, so movies like 'The Guard', which just came out in'11 with Brendan Gleeson (and is hugely funny despite the subject matter & language). Last posting on 'Vera Drake' was a while ago, so whoever searches recent postings may get a nudge that it's worth watching......and also one worth watching every few years.
