Helen Coker.

Unfortunately yes, in Vera Drake she was terrible. But to be fair it was a tiny part. Generally i'm a fan, but she wasn't great in this film.

She played a good part in 'All or Nothing'. Much better, watch that.

No no the character was good, but generally her presence seemed awkward. It's just the vibe i got.

You've got to figure her job was all about being an awkward presence. A Woman Police Officer's job was pretty much just to be there and deal with females in police questioning and custody to make sure the prisoner can not claim improper behavior from the men. She wasn't there to question or think, just to act as a safe gaurd to modesty and propriety.

I thought she did a fine job. In fact, I wasn't familiar with Helen Coker, but after watching her in this movie, I checked to see what other roles she's had.

@swamphan Well OK, but I thought Helen Coker was great in the role. She conveyed WPC Best's attempts to treat Vera warmly, in stark contrast to the detectives who were all business.

Fun fact: Helen Coker plays a character in Mike Leigh's All or Nothing (2002) who gets pregnant by her psycho boyfriend and considers getting an abortion. OK, maybe it's not that fun, but I thought it was interesting.
