shareAgreed. He's one of the sorriest creatures I've ever seen on film. But he was still great.

- Who's the lady with the log?
- We call her the Log Lady.
I wholeheartedly agree. He definitely stood out by not allowing the simplicity of his character's dialogue dictate his overall personality.
That moment in the film is incredibly touching because of how he presents his appreciation to Vera for accepting him when Vera's family are too uncomfortable to talk to her because of the circumstances, contrasting his reserved manner up until that point.
A wonderful film in all aspects.
In sharp contrast to that simpering beyatch, Vera's sister in law.
shareOh my God, that was his best Christmas! That was said so solemnly and bleakly, quite unlike Tiny Tim's "God bless us everyone!" I immediately thought of Eraserhead's statement:"I'm on vacation." However, it showed how appreciative Reg was for the kindness shown to him by Vera. His deprived childhood with the 6 persons in two rooms also gave him the perception to understand why Vera was helping the women terminate the pregnancies. The scene was sadly touching. I keep hoping that after Vera was let out that everybody lived as happily as possible.
share@simi88-1 At first I found it (unintentionally?) funny, because the atmosphere was brutal, especially with Joyce being a superbitch. But now of course I see that Reg was genuine, seeing as how Vera had treated him so well and he got engaged, so it really was a great Christmas for him.
