The movie is hideous. What impressed me the most though was the big tummy they gave that boy. totally pathetic and not important to the understanding of the character.

shareErrr... I think you missed the tiny bit of subtext this movie had.
The kid was fat, so he considered himself an outsider. Like when we first see him, he's trying to dive in the pool and the other boys tease him for being fat. Don't you think that would make him just a **little** self-conscious? Which is why when he jumps in the pool, his butt actually grows ginormous - splashing all the water out.
Sheezh, I only watched the movie once on dvd, and even I got that bit!
