Lighten up - Zoom was fun family movie

"Zoom" was a fun movie with a likeable and attractive cast and meant to appeal to a kids without putting their parents into a sugar coma. I have watched it several times with family members that ranged in age from 6 to 65 with most in the 8-14 year range and they loved it. Super heroes, comedy, excitement, good music, a decent script, Tim Allen, Courtney Cox, Chevy Chase and Rip Torn as the familiar faces for the adults and four wholesome kids who were a joy to watch. I hope they come out with a sequel and roll with it for awhile. As for the ratings, if you are looking for a fun movie to watch with the kids and some popcorn and a family night "in," look no further. I asked a dozen kids to rate Zoom and they all gave two thumbs up and scored it a "10" (hey, they're kids). I have to say that ranked against other supposed live action "family fair" that has come out in the past few years and doesn't have an elf, dwarf or fairy in it, I agree with them. Is it the Godfather or Goodfellas or Shindler's List? No. But I wouldn't allow younger children to watch any of those movies and I'm sick to death of "kids movies" that glorify urban and poverty stricken culture or depict kids with no more ambition than to dance, sing, stomp, smack, hip hop, or deal with some other adult oriented problems. Oh, while I'm at it, what a relief that one of the kids wasn't trying to decide whether they were gay, whether or not to have an abortion, or if they could lay off crack. Getting my point? To Tim Allen, Courtney Cox, Chevy, Rip, and the folks at Disney - THANKS for remembering the folks out here who are doing our best to live moral lives, set examples for our children, and paying the bulk of the tab for the disenfranchised and malcontents that are sadly driven to tear down and criticize anything that is wholesome and good in life. The movie was made for the type of folks who enjoy Disney World, wholesome entertainment with their children, and lifes simpler pleasures. Enjoy the movie and save some popcorn for me. Cheers!

You act as if there's something wrong with singing, dancing, stomping, and hip hop? What's so wrong with that?

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

agreed, this movie was fun. Sure the acting wasn't all that and the story was lame, but so what. It was meant to entertain and it did entertain me.

which kids movies are about hiphop, sing, stomp and all that?
if you mean teen movies than I agree. There's nothing more I hate than teen movies. I just shiver when I think about films like Mean Girls.

You say, "the folks at Disney." If you're thanking Disney for making this film, you're mistaken. This is not a Disney film. The much better Sky High IS a Disney film however. Note: that movie is also homosexuality/abortion/drug-free. I find it amusing how you essentially equate homosexuality with getting an abortion and doing drugs.

Your wrong.
He never equated gaynes with abortion and crack. he commenting about the mental anguish quotient associated wit the corrosponding problem. The after school special mentality was refreshingly absent.

Still, they implied that being gay or wondering if you are is something to be frowned up or ashamed of. I almost kind of find that laughable because the super hero is an allegory to minorities (like homosexuality, for example). Think about it, they're all "different" from everyone else, they often/usually don't fit in, they're "freaks", etc.

I'm reminded of the line from X2 where Bobby's (Iceman) mom asks him "...Have you tried not being a mutant?"

I will agree that Zoom was a fun family movie, though. I also don't see why so many people hated it. It wasn't meant to have the tone of Batman Begins or X-Men, it was for kids for crying out loud. So that means you kind of have to look at it with a somewhat childish mentality and don't put so much thought into it.

Watching ZOOM made me feel good, it's a family film.

And I disagree with some of the critique I read on this board: ZOOM has a fairly intelligent screenplay, decent acting from adult actors as well as the kids, and enough action to fit in a feel good movie.

It's as if some people would like to have It's A Wonderful Life look more like Saw!

I agree.

The rating and complaints on this movie are so unfair and way too harsh.

It DEFINITELY wasn't an absolutely wonderful masterpiece, but it was really fun and enjoyable and doesn't deserve this much crap.

Not to mention the cast, in ways, was pretty tight. Courtney Cox, Tim Allen, Chevy Chase, Kevin Zegers, they all captured their parts perfectly as well as the kid actors which I would like to see the two oldest ones in many more films because they were very likeable and talented aside from what most would say.

It was overall just meant for entertainment purposes and that's what it did, entertain. People need to lighten up...

i thought it was great. I loved watchmen and Dark night and all the serious super people lark but this was awesome in a simple, silly and happy way... sometimes thats good too.

I realize this post is from years ago, but I couldn't stop from commenting on your post. Do you have any idea how bigoted you sound? The first statement I quoted above, what does that even mean? Do you think that every child on earth is born in a white, upper middle class suburb and therefore every movie should be set there? Do you think an African child born in North Philly or a Latino child born in East L.A. would be able to relate to that? Do they not deserve to have a movie with a character that's like them? Or do you believe since their parents can't afford nice clothes or a brand new $300,000 house they don't matter?

And then there's the second post. I do agree that children shouldn't be exposed to sexuality as young as they are these days. But sex is NOT all there is to being gay and many gay people will tell you they knew from a very young age that they were gay. Gender roles and heterosexual relationship skills are something that children start learning from a young age, ie: a little boy kissing a little girl on the playground or a little boy and girl playing house. Much of this comes from seeing their parents interact, but it would be naive to assume that some of it isn't picked up through today's media. If two young boys know they're gay from a very young age and are comfortable with it, shouldn't they be afforded the same opportunities? Maybe if my favorite Uncle had had more opportunities of that nature, he and his partner(who, now that I finally now him, is my other favorite uncle) wouldn't have felt they had to hide in the closet for my entire childhood. They had been together for almost 15 years when they finally came out to the family and we started getting to see my uncle more than once every few years. I think children should understand what homosexuality is the same way they now what heterosexuality is, being that it's such a huge part of our culture. That doesn't mean they need to learn about sex. You would be okay with telling your child, "Uncle Tommy loves Aunt Anna," why not, "Uncle Tommy loves Uncle Andy?" Every parent wants their children to know love. My two Uncles have a relationship that is just as loving, caring, and committed as any of my other aunts and uncles. Love is love, not matter what the label.

Preach love and tolerance, not hate and disrespect.
