Is this supposed to be funny?

I'm trying to watch this on Comedy Central right now after seeing them on Kimmel. I have to admit, I kind of get it, but it just doesn't do anything for me and I usually like weird stuff like this. I've always liked Bobcat Goldthwaite, but I do not understand why this gets any attention at all. It isn't very funny IMO.

That's too bad, man. I'm watching it right now, too, and everytime I see it, I really crack up.

Please at least tell me you laughed when Perry got hit by the basketball! Gold!

That's weird, because I'm watching it right now for the first time and I think it is hilarious. Are you upset that bobcat isn't doing his Police Academy voice?

reply

This is my first time also and I can't believe how well these guys are pulling this off. I wish they could refrain from editing the dialogue, though.

What I don't get is, why they left out the most crucial part of the movie? Where's the part where they reveal the prank? Without that the film is just a two hour joke with no punchline.

This is what I wondered about. For the showing on Comedy Central yesterday (9-28-06), after the premeire, they just showed a moment of Perry sitting down and then it went to the production logo. Was there a reveal? After such an abrupt ending, I wondered what was going on.

There is a reveal but it's on the DVD. To tell the truth, the reveal is a bit of a let down. Perry is so thick, that he doesn't get the joke. They arrange a screening of the film at Perry's apartment and Don, Mole, and a couple of cameras come over. They never say surprise or anything, they just sit there and wait for it to dawn on him. The problem is he seems to think it's a "making of" type of thing that he's watching. At one point "Mole" looks at the camera and mouths the words "What the *beep* because Perry just isn't getting it. Don & Mole never break character through, they just keep on going. At some point they must have sat him down and explained it all.

reply

Yeah, that was great. Mole breaks character for a moment while Perry is engrossed in himself. Perry is standing up, pumping his fists in the air and screaming like Sam Kinnison having a baby for the nth time at whatever scene he was watching, (probably the part where he "wins" at the "audition"), and and Mole looks into the camera, shakes his head, and mouths the words, "What the f---?" Even after being revealed that the movie was a prank, Perry still doesn't get it. At no point does he ever question what happened.

I wished they had showed the entire recording of them watching the movie, as a sort of second "commentary" track with the three of them, instead of just a twenty minute long series of excerpts. The three of them together is pure comedy gold.

there was no reveal because perry is too dumb.

Perry read about it on the internet later on, so he sort of knows its a prank, but in an interview with suicide girls bobcat said perry still doesnt seem to grasp the situation and most likely is still wondering when his movie will be released. perry still thinks he is a great actor. This prank has supposedly been going on for some 11 years and yes perry really is that dumb.

if you are looking for some more perry related humor check out his official website and his myspace page. its hilarious and yet its meant by perry to be serious.

this film IS real. Dont listen to the conspirators.

How can you not laugh at this movie? I was in stiches after watching only 20 minutes of it.

That scene where Perry wins the part, and Mole and Don rush up on stage and start pouncing on him in "celebration" had me laughing so hard I almost sufficated. I had to stop the movie a few times because I couldn't stop laughing. Windy City Heat is, hands down, the single funniest thing I have ever witnessed.

I'm with you. I watched this movie earlier today and it barely raised a smile. Maybe it's because the whole thing is so obviously fake. Head injury or not, how stupid would you need to be not to know something was going on? I mean, Perry's supposed to be the 'star' of the movie and he's asked to look after the buffet and doesn't question it! If anyone's the victim of a prank it's all you people out there who've bought into the *beep* hype. As for Don insisting that the whole thing is real - well, he would say that, wouldn't he?

reply

I can safely say that it's all real, because I shot some of the behind the scenes footage for the DVD extras of WCH. I happen to know Don, Perry, and Toni, but I don't know Toni as well as Don or Perry. Perry is as stupid as he seems in the movie. After I met Perry I started flicking a lit cigarette in his car every time I saw him. He's an idiot and everyone that meets him messes with him and he never gets it. Believe me it's 100% real and Perry is really as stupid as he appears in the movie.
