Sexism in the Movie Stealth

I am a heterosexual male. I have had my share of fantasies about women and certainly Jennifer Beal is one to inspire fantasies.
However, there are 2 msges that come through loud and clear from this movie that I, for one would like to flame. 1>That is it alright Lt. Ben Gannon(Josh Lucas) and Lt. Henry Purcell(Jamie Foxx) to pick up bimbos and have their fun while on R&R. Why then can't Lt. Kara WadeJennifer Beal) pick up a 'boy toy' and have her fun? It is not just this film that implies that men who do this are 'real men' but if a woman does it she is a slut. 2>Why is it that a man and a woman can't work together, be friends, without some romantic or sexual entanglement, or one of them being a homosexual? Can someone please answer me that?

I think you should at least get her name right.......

JESSICA BIEL

1. She has more class than to pick up some random bloke in a club

2. Wouldn't you fall in love working with a total hottie like her? (sorry is that sexist?)

reply

1) I think she chose not to, and furthermore, by not showing her picking up random guys she is put forth as stronger than if they had her attached to some random dude every leave she gets.

2) Of course they can, but a romantic spin on things adds to the story. Are you saying that there is never any instance of platonic friendship just because of this movie?

You are searching for something that does not exist.

i must agree with the first poster. the movie is totally sexist.. hahah.. te girl is so underdressed its impressive - thinking about she being in a almost 99% male world - and what more is that she!!. that is she wanted could get anybody PINES.. yes PINES over the most sexist *beep* of them all.. takes bimbo hos home and puts a notch on his belt every time.. and still she is in love with him.. and please dont tell me a guy who are so shallow that he dont even want to get into a relationship with the girl he randomly picks up - suddently loves the girl he works with in depth.. guys i know and have talked to would never ever put up that kind of show in front of a girl they are in love with.. so back to the most shallow guy in the movie..sprauting up deep feelings he never ever had in his life - his actions tell it all. even Jamie fox have more posture then that guy..flowers and all..

I honestly think its more a dreamt up plot from the writers of the story to tell us that:

1. its ok to be a big *beep* sexist - girls love that - top gun style
2. you can *beep* anybody to show how much you pine after the right girl.. yes girls really love that.. NOT
3. we just need to put a romantic relation ship in this movie - and lets not do it with a B/W relationship but with W/W relationship and who do have to pick from.. OH.. Besides notice how Jamie Fox is only with Asian or Black girls.. just saying...

Anyway this movie was fun - had a bad start - got some depth - not much and ended with a bang..
id recommend you rent BAd Boys 1 + 2 instead..
thats just my 5 cents.

c_hohlmann your post made no sense whatsoever.... I tried to follow it and picked it up in different places and it was completely fractured... Do you have trouble finishing a thought or (as I hope is the case) is English not your first language?

Did you perceive the guys/heroes as weak for picking up random girls?

reply

yep - isn't that the generally accepted thought? Shallow and always wishing to make a commitment.

Well, the west prides itself to have gender equality but ignores that that came latter than even the equality of race in the US and is now barely 30-40 years old!

I also would like to see some selfconfident enough heroine that has some boyfriend and is not totally fallen to the hero. Seems to be too complicated for Hollywood or most of the audience.

The thing with Hollywood is really that most working relations are solely professional because people have lives outside their job and more importantly at some point close friends or comrades become more like siblings and are often not considered for romance anymore. That'd be natural because that's how it plays out most of the time.

To the OP...

Are you one of those that sits and watches tv shows and movies looking for something to whine about. To many people sitting back saying "is this sexist? racist?" etc etc. It's a friggin' action movie. NOTHING MORE.

reply

If it's a "friggin' action movie" why have the guys trying to go for the world record on having the most STDs?

Why didn't Jamie Foxx's character eject out of the plane like Ms Biel's character? Because his character was pointless other than as a womaniser and that plot line had run it's course, whereas, Ms Biel's character was eye candy and a mate for James Bond I mean the other male actor's character.

Anyone interested in a real action movie would steer clear of this stinker after one "conned by the previews" viewing.

1. She STATED clearly that she didn't pick up guys because she 'hadn't found one that was worth the trouble'. Relationships are hugely involved things for most women as well as most men. She's being smart by not going after the first hot boy-toy she sees just for the hell of it. That's not sexist, it's sensible.

2. If you're referring to the Gannon/Wade romance being impossible, here's why: She's in the military, they're strict about that kind of thing last time I checked. Gannon outranks her therefore it's inappropriate for them to date, it's considered a conflict of interest and is against regulations. It's the same reason I, at my everyday job, can't date/sleep with/be married to my manager. There's too much chance for the people involved to use their relationship to get ahead at work, getting extra hours/promotions/pay raises, that kind of thing.
The military is not going to let a twitterpated couple get in the way of the job that needs to be done and therefore don't allow it to occur in the first place.
If Gannon and Wade were to be in a relationship, they'd have to be in different services or at least different units (in which case they wouldn't see much of each other anyway, defeating the purpose of them dating in the first place).

Very noble sentiment pulldigm, but I'll bet you just wanted to see Jessica Beal in a sex scene (Am I right or am I right, lol).

Also I always get those two names mixed up. That older actress 'Jennifer Beals' (Flash Dance, The L Word etc) and 'Jessica Beal'
