After 1LT Kara Wade (Jessica Biel) is shot down over North Korea, she uses a peculiar personal defense weapon (PDW), along the lines of a bigger submachinegun. But I don't recognize the type. Does anyone know? Maybe it's a Hollywood prop gun that isn't patterned after a real PDW.

the Navy doesn't have 1st or 2nd Lieutenants. that's everyone else. Navy has LT Junior Grade or just JG (O2), then LT (03).

Actually the navy does have a 1st Lieutenant.
But as a POSITION, not a rank so you are correct in what you meant, if not totally in fact.
the 1st Lieutenant is the position of the division officer in charge of 1st division, which traditionally is the deck department, the Boatswain's mates. Usually the position goes to a fairly new officer aboard who is generally a Lt. JG.
At a shore command the same job goes to the department in charge of the base grounds maintenance.
